Rescued from obscurity, is an interesting collection of pinups gathered from a pair of mid 1950’s Danish Magazines, “Piff” and “Kavalkad”. Having originally gleaned these wonderful “naïf style” pages from an anonymous contributor on a newsreader service, I hung onto them for years waiting for the opportunity to digitally restore them and share them with the pinup world. My research turns up almost zero information on either publication, so I gather that these pics are indeed on the rare side.

     How can you not love a collection that has not only a few of the greatest surreal looking pinups I’ve ever seen (cowgirl with blazing cap pistols), but also some of the most primitive. Not that I’m a fan of Playboy Magazine’s airbrushed perfect world, but when you have pages with the nipples tinted bright red for effect, what exactly were the Danes thinking? Nobody will ever notice?? Actually, the nipple trick almost slipped past me, because it seems to fit right in with the style…..

     Then again, another reason to love this collection is the obvious refusal to retouch away a little cellulite here and there. This had to be either a ground breaking crew for those days (even for Scandinavia), or they were just too cheap to hire a good retoucher.

     Don’t know, don’t care. Just enjoy the collection for what it is; a surreal and enchanting walk on the mild side.
